A Message from Our New Chair – Bradley Young
Hello everyone,
I’m Bradley Young, and I’m honoured to introduce myself as the new Chair of Great Yarmouth Swimming Club.
As someone who grew up in this area, I’ve always felt a strong connection to our community. Taking on this role feels like the perfect way to give back to the place that shaped me, especially as a keen swimmer in my youth.
In addition to my role as Chair, I’m a primary school Headteacher and, like many of you, a parent navigating the world of competitive sports. Both of my children have grown up with this club, starting in the Learn to Swim programme and progressing through the Junior Squad to now being part of the Performance Squad. Watching their journey has been incredible, and I’m confident your children will thrive just as mine have in this nurturing and supportive environment.
I’ve been inspired by the long-standing heritage and traditions of Great Yarmouth Swimming Club. From our first Chair, Councillor Frederick Brett, who brought two rival clubs together in 1919, to Mr. F.E. Baird, who introduced the first Ladies Section in 1922, this club has always been about progress and inclusion. My goal is to uphold this legacy while helping the club grow and adapt to modern challenges.
One of the things I value most about this role is the chance to work with a passionate group of committee members, parents, and swimmers. Together, we can achieve great things for the club and ensure every swimmer has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
I’m excited about what lies ahead and look forward to working with all of you to make our club the best it can be.
See you at the pool!
Bradley Young
