A large team of junior squad swimmers travelled down the A12 to Lowestoft to take part in a Novice gala at the Water Lane pool, on the evening of Saturday 15th April.
There were some excellent swims during the evening, with many Great Yarmouth Swimmers leaving the gala with medals round their necks.
In the age 8 and under category, Charlie Foulger had an outstanding night, winning 3 events; 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke and 25m freestyle. Emma Land also did very well coming away with a 2nd place in the 25m backstroke and a 3rd in the 25m freestyle.
The top performer in the girls 9 and over age group was Alyssa Greenhall who swam strongly throughout the evening, earning 1st place in 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke and 100m individual medley along with a 2nd place in the 25m freestyle. Other notable performers who achieved top 3 placings were: Isla Marshall who took a confident 2nd place in 100m IM along with 3rd place in 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke and 25m freestyle; Preethi Saravanan who gained 1st place in 25m freestyle and 2nd place in 25m breaststroke and 25m backstroke; Ameila Dibble who took 2nd place in 50m freestyle and 3rd in 50m butterfly and Skye Nichols with a 2nd place in the 25m butterfly.
For the boys, competing in the age 9 and over category there were a number of excellent swims during the evening. Karthik Saravanan showed determination in winning the 25m breaststroke and 25m freestyle along with taking 2nd places in 25m backstroke and 100m IM, Tom Barnes showed his potential for the future with a good win in the 25m butterfly, 2nd place in both 25m breaststroke and 25m freestyle and a 3rd in 25m backstroke. Jack Tate continues to improve and came away with three 2nd places; 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle and two 3rd places; 50m butterfly and 100m IM. Charlie Brown had a good evening winning the 100m IM and gaining a 2nd place in the 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 50m backstroke and George Ross showed potential by winning the 25m backstroke along with taking 3rd in the 100m IM. Arvee Seetal swam with strength to win the 50m butterfly and Brad Secker showed real improvement to win the 50m freestyle. Morgan Twose took 2nd in the 25m butterfly. Aidan Walker took 2nd in the 50m breaststroke and Adam Platten 3rd in the 25m Breaststroke.
There were also numerous excellent new pbs for many of the swimmers, and some real potential was shown which bodes well for the future of the club. There was great positivity shown by the team, especially in spite of the very quick turn around between races. Well done to all the Great Yarmouth swimmers that competed and thanks to the coaches, officials, Abbey and Zoe for helping poolside, and of course parents for their support.
