GYSC win the Crusaders Cup 2018

Crusaders Gala October 2018

Tuesday 23rd October saw the annual Crusaders gala take place at the Great Yarmouth Charter Academy pool.  The Crusaders team travels down from Bedfordshire each year, staying locally, spending the week training together during which they compete with the local Great Yarmouth Swimming Club for the Crusaders Cup.

Swimmers aged between 8 and 16 took part in the gala, with Starr Nichols (8) being the youngest GYSC team member and Ryan Webb (16) being the oldest.  There was a fabulous atmosphere, with the teams and their supporters raising the rafters with the noise level.  Possibly the loudest event of the evening was the cannon with 16 swimmers from each team swimming in a huge relay.  The Crusaders team took an early lead, but the GYSC team gradually reeled them in, and with Ryan on the anchor leg, they took the victory with the whole pool roaring their teams on.

Two teams competed for each club and when the racing had finished, Senior Coach Rob Nesbitt announced the results.  GYSC’s teams came first (165 points) and third (115 points) with the Crusaders teams coming in second (130 points) and forth places (100 points). This meant the when the points from both teams were totaled up, Great Yarmouth were the over all winners, retaining the cup from last year.  The trophy was then presented by Adrian Pearce, to men’s captain Raul Hasmasan and vice captain Jacob Zandbergen and girls captain Melissa Duffield and vice Captain Anna Pearce.

Many thanks to the Crusaders and GYSC volunteers for all their help running the gala and well done to all the swimmers who took part.
