On a very hot and humid Sunday morning, Jack Tate and Harry Crisp travelled to the prestigious East Region Open Water Championship at Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre, Norwich.
The championship is one of the largest Open Water Events in the Country, and for Jack it was his first attempt at competing in an open water event. After getting marked up with his number and briefed by event officials, the first wave of 50 swimmers entered the cool waters to start the boys age 11-12 1km event. Jack was in a bustling pack to start with but with some calm, collective and strong swimming he pulled into some clearer water and swam steadily for the first half of the race. After turning on the 2nd buoy and heading down the straight to the finish funnel Jack picked up speed touching the finish banner on 17:09.60. This strong, determined finish placed Jack 16th in the region for the 11-12 age group and 1st in the county, an outstanding achievement for a first attempt at such a new event for him.
Harry also performed impressively in the men’s 20-24yr old 5km event. Swimming strongly throughout, Harry swam the 5km in 1.09.51, placing him in an excellent 3rdplace in his age group for the region, and 1stin the county.
Congratulations to both Jack and Harry on their results. Full results can be found at www.eastswimming.org/index.php/open-water-swimming/ow-results/2508-2018-open-water-results/file
