Diss Spring Board Gala 2019

What an amazing evening our younger swimmers had at the Diss Springboard meet on Saturday 9thMarch.  A host of medals, a stack of new PBs and fabulous swims throughout the evening resulted in a great evening for everyone who was involved.  The swimmers were also supported by girls’ captain Zoe Land and girls’ vice-captain Alyssa Greenall, along with swimmers Skye Nichols and Grace Turner who all cheered the swimmers on the whole evening.

The youngest swimmer competing for GYSC was Starr Nichols (8) who had a brilliant gala coming away with gold medals for the 50m back, 25m fly and 25m back along with silver in the 50m free and 25m free – what an evening!

The age 9s had plenty of GYSC representatives from both the girls and the boys.  Jan Beblot also had an outstanding meet taking gold in 50m back, 50m free, 25m free and 25m back along with silver in the 25m breast. Ben Turner – in the same age group pushed Jan hard, taking gold in the 50m breast and 25m breast and silver in the 25m free and 25m back.  The girls walked away with a sack of silverware too. Ruby Rowland continues to improve and showed her speed by taking gold in the 50m back and 100m IM with silver in the 25m fly.  Also having gold medal swims were Olivia Greenall with gold in the 25m fly and 25m free and silver in the 25m back, and Lilia Burgoyne who took a great gold in the 50m free and silver in the 100m IM.  Chloe Green took an excellent bronze in the 25m fly and both her and Izabelle Chambers-Bowles swam some strong new PB times showing determination in all of their races.

Poppy Herd, who was competing in the girls age 10 category, was another medal winning swimmer.  Showing strength across the strokes, she won gold in 50m back, 50m breast and 25m breast and silver in the 25m fly.

The age 11 category had the most GYSC swimmers in it, with 10 taking part.  For the girls Eliza May was the only gold medal winner, taking a convincing victory in the 50m fly.  Maisy Green took strong silvers in the 50m back and 50 free and a bronze in the 25m back and Millie Delaney took a great silver in the 25m breast. Ella Hutchinson also medalled with a bronze in the 25m breast, and like Darcey Grimmer, was just pushed out of the medals coming 4thin other races against some strong competition.  All the girls can feel proud of how they swam, however, as they gave their all.  The 11 year old boys represented the club well too, with Oscar Rose winning the most medals. He took silver in the 50m fly and bronze in the 50m breast and 50m free. There was silver for Morgan Twose in a great 50m fly and bronzes for Luke Hurt in the 25m free and Max Marshall in the 25m breaststroke.  Thomas Smith also competed and swam well all evening.

The most successful event for GYSC was the girls age 9 25m fly where our girls took the top three spots of gold, silver and bronze.

Huge congratulations to everyone who competed, and massive thanks to all the helpers (adults and juniors), coaching staff and volunteers.  If you are interested in taking part in galas such as these and are unsure how to, speak to your squad coach who can advise you.
