On Saturday 12th December a team from Great Yarmouth Swimming Club took part in round three of the National Arena League held at Dereham. The arena league comprises of over 400 teams competing in seven leagues nationally, with 16,000 swimmers competing in 200 galas. The team swam well against tough competition achieving 5th place on the night.
Notable performances included: Jenna Utting taking 1st place in the 15 year and under 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle events; Julianna Mercado swimming hard to gain 1st places in the 10/11years 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke events; Anna Duffield gaining first place in 13 years and under 100m butterfly (breaking 1min 20 sec for the first time) whilst also gaining two 3rd places in the 13 and under and 15 and under 100m backstroke events; Jacob Zandbergen swimming impressively to win 10/11year 50m freestyle; Kelsey Wilson also swimming very well to gain 2nd place in the 13yr and under 100m freestyle; Anna Pearce taking 2nd place in the 10/11 year 50m butterfly race and Finley Coman gaining 2nd place in 10/11 year 50m Backstroke event; Alex Goff just being squeezed into 2nd place in a closely fought men’s 100m freestyle race; Natasha Maw taking a good 3rd place in the 10/11year 50m freestyle event and Ryan Webb doing well to gain a 3rd place in the 15 year and under 100m butterfly race against older swimmers.
Jake Honey, Raul Hasmasan, Ben Bedford, Kyle Jones, Finley Brown, Lauren James, Macey James, Emma Gordon, Lucy Gordon, Ernest Blas and Bailey Medler all contributed well in their races adding to the team’s overall points total.
