Swimming - Training - Squad

Squad Timetable

The squad structure at Great Yarmouth Swimming Club is broken down into four groups. These are the Introductory, Main, Advanced and Advanced+ squads.

Young swimmers are taken into the Introductory squad from the age of eight or from the age of seven for exceptional swimmers.

Within the Main, Advanced and Advanced+ squads are the necessary structures for our County, District and National swimmers. The amount of training available at the club is tailored to the requirements of each individual swimmer. The fees payable to the club for the swimming sessions are designed to reflect the number of sessions a swimmer is expected to attend.

Squad Guidelines

Once you have been asked to join squad sessions you will now be part of the Gt Yarmouth Swimming Club competitive squad. The club currently competes in the Norfolk Junior League, Suffolk Junior Leagues, National Swimming League, Broadland Series, and various other county and trophy meetings. The club also has its own Age Groups and Championship events held annually.

Your assigned coach will introduce you to lane swimming and use of the pace clock, they will also ensure that you are swimming at the correct level. If you are unsure of anything please do not hesitate to ask the coach assigned to your lane. Please talk to your coach about any problems you experience with your swimming, remember that they are there to help you.

At squad sessions you will need to bring your own goggles and remember to bring along a drink with you to stand on poolside. The drinks should be in plastic bottles (NO GLASS) and should be still drinks. Whilst training you will become dehydrated so a drink bottle is essential. The club does provide you with a float and pull buoy but you are more than welcome to bring along your own if you wish.

Please remember that as a squad member it is a condition of membership that you swim for the club when selected, the club is a competitive one and as such needs you to compete. Lane space is at a premium so the club cannot offer lane space for those swimmers who come along just to keep fit. It is also expected that the parents of squad swimmers will make themselves available to help with the general running of the club.
