Swimming - Club Competitions - Overview
Swimming competitions (Galas) are held most weekends. The various competitions the club enters are all graded by age and ability to ensure all swimmers have the opportunity to compete in a gala with swimmers of a similar standard.
Mini-Galas
The club runs these twice a year at the Great Yarmouth High School Pool. All swimmers in our Lessons and Introductory Squad group are encouraged to enter. They provide our swimmers with their first experience of a swimming gala within a competitive and friendly atmosphere. Entry details are posted on the High School and Phoenix Pool notice boards.
Club Championships
These competitions are held in three separate events at the Phoenix Pool. All club members currently training with the club are eligible to enter. The swimmers compete at their age group or in various handicapped races. The club has a large number of trophies that are awarded at a presentation night held in December each year. Entry details are on the website and the notice boards.
Age Group Championship
This series of competitions held every year is to find and reward our fastest swimmers in each of the age groups. Entry details are on the website and notice boards.
Galas (Leagues)
These are competitions between Great Yarmouth Swimming Club and other swimming clubs from the surrounding area. The club currently competes in five local leagues and the National Swimming League. Notification of selection to swim is via a team sheet on the Phoenix Pool notice board. If the gala venue is not in the local area then the club will provide coach transport. Transport is free to swimmers and officials, if space is available spectators may travel for a small fee.
Open Meets
These are events that swimmers enter themselves. Details of the most popular local Open Meets are available on this website and the Phoenix Pool notice board.
County Championship/Challenge
Entry details for the two competitions can be found on the website and the Phoenix Pool notice board.
