Swimming - Code of conduct

Training Sessions

The expectations are:

• Swimmers are to arrive on time and be ready to swim at the start of training.
• Swimmers should be prepared to do their best in every training session.
• Look and listen to the Coach when they are speaking and follow all instructions given.
• Respect, care and consideration for fellow swimmers and the coaches should be maintained at all times (so as to ensure safe and effective training sessions).
• Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour at all times. (rowdy, anti-social or bullying behaviour will not be accepted).
• Speak politely to all swimmers, coaches and helpers.
• The rights, dignity, and worth of others, regardless of their gender, abilities, cultural background or religion are to be respected.
• Behave safely, responsibly and appropriately in the water, do your turns, starts and finishes correctly and finish at the wall.
• Swimmers are to swim in their prescribed lanes.
• All training sets must be completed in full.
• If you are struggling with a set, be honest with the coaches, unnecessary ‘toilet' breaks are not acceptable.
• Lane etiquette should be observed at all times - if you are touched on the ankle by a faster swimmer behind you, move to the side and let them pass.

Minor breaches of this code of conduct may result in one or more of the following, at the Coach's discretion:

• A gentle reminder of what is acceptable
• 5 minutes ‘Time Out' - sitting on poolside, away from swimmers.
• A written warning from the coach followed by a written warning from the committee to advise parents.
• Two such written warnings could lead to suspension or expulsion from the Club.

A serious breech of conduct will result in suspension and an invitation to the person to put his/her/their case to committee.

Changing Rooms (Home and Training)

The expectations are

• Behave in a responsible and orderly manner and change as quickly as possible
• Respect the property of other swimmers and the Swimming Pool's facilities.

• Remain seated on the coach throughout the journey
• Wear seatbelts if provided
• Not interfere with any safety equipment on the coach
• Comply with any instruction from the coach driver
• Not leave rubbish on the coach
• Wear club hats when representing GYSC
• Demonstrate an acceptable level of behaviour and personal conduct at all times
• Behave in a ‘sporting manner ‘ in all races
