Young Stars Cape Cup Gala 2011 - Report

On Saturday at the Phoenix Pool in a junior gala, Great Yarmouth came away as overall winners and so retained the Cape Cup.

Great Yarmouth 130, Beccles 103, North Norfolk 96, Halesworth 44.

The team got off to a good start with the 8/u sweeping the board. First places coming from, Hannah Ingham, Freestyle, Melina Burwood, Breastroke and Jenna Martin, Backstroke and Freestyle. For the boys first places came from Billy Heseltine, Breastroke and Freestyle, Scott Ribbons, Backstroke and Freestyle.

The 9/u kept the pace going with first places for Emma Gordon, Fly and Backstroke and a second for Honey Harvey in Freestyle. Jessica Hudson was unfortunate to be disqualified in Breastroke. Ryan Webb battled hard for his first and second places, Freestyle and Backstroke as did Morgan Clarke for his win in the Fly. Sam Skuuse just missed a first place in a close Breastroke race.

The 10/u girls found strong opposition but a second place came from Natasha Mansfield-Holly, Backstroke, a third from Lily Johnson, Freestyle and a fourth from Emily Loveland, Breastroke. Joseph Windsor Freeman was in good form wth two fine wins, Backstroke and Fly. Luis Boulton with a new PB got a second in Breastroke, Joshua Smith anxious to get away was disqualified in the Freestyle.

The 11/u girls also found good competition and they all created new PBs with a second place for Kioni Bloomfield, Fly, a third for Georgia Wells, Freestyle and a fourth for Isobel Robins Breastroke. The boys contiued their run of sucess with two clear first places from Jack Collins, Freestyle and Fly, Liam Hanley in a determined Breastroke swim led all the way for his first place but Miles Houghton just missed out and came second in the Breastroke.
