Utting's Triple Gold Haul

Monday, 05 April 2010 16:14

Easter weekend saw Great Yarmouth Swimming Club's Jack Utting in action at the Easter Open meeting held at the UEA Sportspark's 50 mtr pool in Norwich. This was a level 1 licensed meeting attracting the top swimmers from around the region and beyond.

On the opening day, Jack was in blistering form for the 200 mtr backstroke, not only taking the gold, but five and a half seconds clear of his nearest rival. This was to give him his first National qualifying time of 2010, smashing the meet age group record by over eight seconds.

Saturday proved to be a success resulting in a Silver in the 100 mtr Butterfly and another gold in the 50 mtr Backstroke after being pushed hard by the 2009 Age Group national champion, again beating the event record by over a second.

On Sunday, Jack swum a steady 100 mtr backstroke heat to ensure his place in the Regional Championships later in the year seeding him third going into the final. Once there, a strong first length saw the leaders turn for home with fractions of a second between them. Jack opened up on the homeward leg to take a clear win by three quarters of a second. This was his third meet record dominating the Backstroke category and also gives Jack his second qualifying time for the National Championships to be held at Sheffield later this year.

The 200 IM event saw a good third place swim but the effects of the previous two days were by now showing.

Jack was supported by the Great Yarmouth Swimming Club Head Coach, Garry Jarvis throughout the long weekends competition.
