Suffolk Winter League Promotion

Monday, 01 March 2010 20:07

At Thetford on Saturday in the final round of the Suffolk Winter League, Great Yarmouth needed a first placeĀ  to clinch promotion. A fine team effort saw just that with an excellent win and up to the first division. Great Yarmouth 208, Felixstowe 202, Thetford 188,Leiston 160, Deben 143.

The team also won the trophy for the best supported team.

The formidable pairing of Isaac Kirby and Jack Utting got the team off to a good start with first places for Isaac, Breastroke and Fly and Jack, Feestyle and Back. The 15/u boys kept the tempo up with firsts for Connor Webster, Backstroke and Tom Smith, Fly with a second in Freestyle. Daniel Henderson came in with a second place Breastroke. The Open boys found the opposition strong and only George Goldspink, second place Breastroke and Lawrence King, third Backstroke could get in the first three.

The 11/u girls not to be outdone by the boys came in with a first for the ever improving Grace Baxter, Freestyle and two seconds for Danielle Page, Breastroke and Fly all with personal best times. The 13/u girls held the ship steady with second places from Ellie Holden, Backstroke and Laura Loveland, Breastroke. Felixstowe were now hot on our heels and it needed an excellent Freestyle swim from Zoe Prettyman to keep us ahead. Any fears that we may have had at this stage were soon dispelled with four first places from the Open girls Grace Hubbard, Freestyle and Backstroke, Shanise Webster, Breastroke and Charlie Smith in the I/M.

Excellent support swimming came from Taylor Hudson, Adelaide Loveland, Natasha Pestka, Kelly Pyewell, Olivia Smith, Jake Honey, Patrick Manning, Adam Brewin, James Mann, and Brandon Tennant, all of whom achieved personal best times in their events.
