Monday, 28 February 2011 11:52

On Saturday at Haverhill Great Yarmouth swam in the final round of the Suffolk Winter League and had to be content with fifth place. West Suffolk were clear winners overall with 1199 points, Lowestoft and OB 1165, Deben 1156, Stowmarket 1137, Great Yarmouth 907 and Saxons 858.

All the races were over 50m so it was important to get good starts and fast finishes. The 11/u team of Lauren James, Isobel Robbins, Jenna Utting, Jack Collins and Joseph Windsor-Feeman found tough competition. Although all recorded PB's they could not get out of fifth and sixth places.

The 13/u faired better with Isabel Postle having a good swim for second place in the Fly and third in the Freestyle with Laura Loveland pushing hard for fourth in the Breastroke. The boys had the most sucess with first places in the four events, Isaac Kirby Freestyle and Breastroke, Jack Utting, Backstroke and Fly.

The 15/u girls Kelly Pyewell and Olivia Smith, although competing well, found themselves pushed into fifth and sixth places.Connor Webster for the boys turned the tide with an excellent Backstroke swim in a tight finish for second place. Daniel Henderson came in with a fouth in the Breastroke and Oliver Postle finished fifth in the Fly.

The Open girls saw Zoe Smith in a tough competitive Freestyle race and she showed how to finish with an excellent first place. Grace Hubbard got a fourth in Backstroke with Shanise Webster fifth in Breastroke. The best result for the boys came from Daniel Smith with a second place in the Backstroke, Callum McColgan in the Freestyle was unlucky to be placed sixth with all the swimmers coming in together.
