Records fall to Great Yarmouth duo at Regional Championships
Great Yarmouth SC Swimmers, Jack Utting and Isaac Kirby were in action earlier this month at the British Gas Regional Championships held in Norwich. The East Region event brings together the best talent in swimming throughout the six counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire in the 10-14 years age groups.
Jack had the crowd on their feet in the opening event on day one by not only dominating the final qualifying heat, but by taking the 13 year old age group's British title in the 100 metre backstroke event taking 0.6 seconds from the existing record. Jack went on to cruise home in the final taking the Gold and saving himself for the remainder of the day. The afternoon was to see him take the Championship record by over three seconds in the 200 metre backstroke and adding a second win.
On Sunday morning Isaac swum the 200 metre Breaststroke and despite a tiring weeks football, controlled the swimming right from the start and went through to take the record for the event by almost half a second. Both boys were joined by City of Norwich team mates for the 4x100 metre medley relay where the squad dominated the racing from the start taking the existing record held by Team Ipswich by five seconds. The boy's will now be taking this into the National championships in July seeded in first position.
Week two was to see Jack take two second places in the 200 metre Individual medley and 100 metre Fly adding the two silvers to his Gold's. Isaac continued his winning ways with the 100 metre Breastroke taking four seconds from the existing Championship record and adding another Gold to his tally in yet another impressive swim. To finish off the final weekend's racing the boy's took part in the 4x800 metre relay with the team and came in third.
The weekend closed with the Presentation of the British Age Group Category awards with Jack finishing second and Isaac in fourth. Both Boys are linked swimmers to City of Norwich swimming club and are now focused towards the British Gas ASA National age group championships in July at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
