GYSC Second at the Diss Sprints 2010 - Report

Monday, 13 September 2010 18:50

On Saturday the Great Yarmouth team swam in the Diss Sprints Gala and finished in a very creditable second place.

The 11/u girls got off to a good start with Bethany Burwood winning the Breastroke and the Freestyle events, leaving the rest of the field behind with a devastating finish in the Freestyle. Emily Acland in close races finished third in the Backstroke and Fly. For the 13/u Paige Lovage was at her best for a second place in the Fly and a third in the Backstroke. Bethany Roberts came in with a new PB for her third place in the Freestyle. The older girls found tough opposition with Olivia Smith second in the 15/u Fly and Emma Riches third in the Open Fly being the the best placed.

For the 11/u boys Alexander Goff had a good win in the Fly but could not hold off the Diss swimmer in the Freestyle and finished second. Thomas Clarke managed to get amongst the first places with a stylish first place in the Backstroke. The 13/u saw the reliable James Walker have two comfortable wins, Backstroke and Breastroke. Declan Scotts reward for his hard work in training was a first place in the Freestyle and a new PB with a second place in the Fly. James Applegate in the 15/u led from the the start to win the Breastroke and the Freestyle with a much improved time in the latter. Thanks to Robert Nesbitt who stepped in at the last moment and with borrowed gear won the Fly and achieved second in the Backstroke with new PB's. The Open Age group saw third places for Brandon Tennant in the Breastroke and Fly events.

The final result was Diss 123, Great Yarmouth 108, Hadleigh 98 and Dereham 72 points.
