On Saturday at the Phoenix pool the Cape Cup Gala was held, sponsored by Cape P.L.C. Unfortunately the Deben team did not arrive, but thanks to a spirited performance from the Beccles team, there were many close and exciting races. The result was Yarmouth A 198, Yarmouth B 155 and Beccles 139.The B team were keen to beat the A team and Thomas Clarke did just that in winning a thrilling 11/u Backstroke. He was closely followed by George Yusuff and Daisy Parker, both clear winners over the the A team. Charlie Smith completed a volley of wins with the Open Fly and equal first in the Breastroke.
The A team got an early lead with a series of first places. Adelaide Loveland Freestyle and Backstroke, Danielle Page Breastroke and Fly for the 11/u. Zoe Prettyman had two fine wins in the 15/u Breastroke and Fly with Megan Newman winning the Backstroke. The dependable Grace Hubbard easily won the Open Feestyle and Backstroke in her relaxed style. This was followed by a thrilling Breastroke race which had the spectators on their feet, Charlie Smith and Shanise Webster were neck and neck throughout the race and at the end the judges
could not seperate them so equal first was given. Isaac Kirby and Jack Utting swam away from the opposition to win their races but Alexander Goff Fly and Declan Scott Breastroke had to be on top form to win close races. Tom Smith in good form was too strong for the other swimmers and came away in the 15/u Breastroke and Fly. At last the Open boys got amongst the places winning all four races, Daniel Buck Backstroke and Fly, George Goldspink Breastroke and Rory Abel Freestyle. Thanks to the Beccles team for making the Gala a sucess.
