Sunday, 23 May 2010 09:03
At the Breckland Gala at Dereham on Saturday, Great Yarmouth recorded twenty six personal best times but this was not enough to breakdown the dominance of the West Norfolk club and had to be content with fourth place. West Norfolk 209, Dereham 192, Norwich Swan 192, Great Yarmouth 164, Halstead 94 and Beccles 88.
Amelia Driver was an early winner with a first place in the 10/u Backstroke. Emily Acland tried hard but was pushed into second place in the Breastroke. The 12/u saw a third place for Katherine Turton with fourth places coming from the the Loveland girls, Laura in the 200 I/M and Adelaide the Freestyle. Zoe Prettyman got a good second place in the 14/u Freestyle with a well controlled swim and Olivia Smith was just denied first place in 100m Fly. Ellie Holden and Kelly Pyewell both in close races had to be content with third places, Backstroke and Breastroke. The Open girls saw Charlie Smith fight hard for her second place in the I/M but Grace Hubbard and Shanise Webster could not catch the two leading swimmers both coming third, Grace in the Freestyle and Shanise the Breastroke.
The 10/u boys began with two good third places from Miles Houghton, Freestyle and Backstroke followed by fourth places from Callum Stannard, Breastroke and Aaron Hudson, Fly. The 12/u saw Jack Utting again come in with two first places winning the Fly and the I/M. The ever improving Jack Walker pushed hard but had to be content with third place in the Freestyle. The 14/u brought an excellent swim from Daniel Henderson who fought off the opposition for a first place in the 100m Fly. Lawrence King swimming at his best came second in the Freestyle and Backstroke, both close races. The slim Keelan Pyewell in his relaxed style could not hold on to a first place finishing third in the Breastroke. The Open boys were in a strong age group and Tom Smith did well to get two thrd places in the 200m I/M and the 100m Freestyle. James Applegate, Breastroke and Brandon Tennant, Fly both battled hard but could not catch the leading group and both finished fourth.
With the 26 personal best times recorded the team can feel very proud of their achievements.
