Arena National Swimming League Round 1 - Report

On Saturday at Spalding the Great Yarmouth team swam in the first round of the Arena National League, finishing fourth behind Rushden 223, Melton Mowbray 205, South Lincs 201, Great Yarmouth 196 and Wellingborough 158.

The 11/u age group got the team off to a good start with first place from Taylor Hudson in the Fly and a third for Bethany Burwood, Breastroke. Alexander Goff got second in the Freestyle and a third in the Fly. Two fourth places came from Jake Honey, Backstroke and Liam Hanley, Breastroke.

The 13/u girls in close races saw second places coming from Ellie Holden, Backstroke, Isobel Postle, Fly and Laura Loveland with a new PB in Breastroke. Adelaide Loveland never gave up but had to be content with fourth place. Issac Kirby was a clear winner in the Breastroke four seconds ahead of the second swimmer but was pushed into second place in a tight Freestyle race. Jack Utting dominated the 100m Backstroke five seconds clear in first place.

The best place for the 15/u girls came from Kelly Pyewell second in Breastroke and swimming above her age Olivia Smith got a fourh in Fly with Fifth places from Rebecca Spry, Backstroke and India Loveland Freestyle. The Boys all came in with new PBs, Daniel Henderson at his best to win the Breastroke, Oliver Postle second Fly and thirds for Connor Webster, Backstroke and Tom Smith Freestyle, Tom just missing under a minute for 100m by .95 of a second.

The open girls found tough opposition but Zoe Smith got an excellent first place in the Breastroke. The Freestyle where all five girls came in together, Grace Hubbard was placed third. Charlie Smith got a third in Backstroke and Shanise Webster a fifth in the I/M. The boys took hold of the open events with two first places from Daniel Smith both in under one minute, 56.23 for Freestyle and 59.79 for Backstroke. Jon Dean in fine military style won the Breastroke. Not to be outdone Callum McColgan came in with two excellent second places in Fly and the I/M.

Swimming relays with valuable contribution were Amelia Driver, Lauren James, Daizy Parker, Aaron Hudson, James Walker, William Beck and Brandon Tennant.
