GYSC Swimmers at Ponds Forge

Monday, 19 October 2009 13:03

National_county_teams._Ponds_Forge_18.10On Sunday the 18th of October three members of the Great Yarmouth Swimming Club travelled to Sheffield to represent Norfolk in the British Gas ASA National County Team Championships held at the Ponds Forge pool.

Shanise Webster, Olivia Smith and Jack Utting made the journey with the Norfolk squad to compete in the largest swimming competition in the UK.

With 1100 swimmers taking part from 38 counties, two galas were run simultaneously. The standard was exceptionally high with Norfolk in division 2.

Olympians Ross Davenport and David Carry were deck hosts for the day.

Jack was the first Team GY swimmer into the pool competing in the 100m Backstroke and setting a new Personal Best. He was followed by Olivia in the 100m Butterfly where the competition was fierce. Jack also swam in the 100 Butterfly and again achieved a new P.B. taking almost one and a half seconds off his previous time. Shanise and Jack were both in action in the 4x50m medley relays where Norfolk finished in 7th and 9th place.

Team Norfolk completed the Gala in 10th place overall. To have been selected to represent the county at this level was a great achievement, not only for the swimmers, but for the coaching team behind them.
