Age Group Championships
Sunday, 06 December 2009 13:41
Last night was the second and final round of the Great Yarmouth Swimming Club Age Group Championships which were held at the Phoenix Pool.
It was a fiercely competitive evening in all events, the swimmers showing great determination in their efforts to become overall champion in their age group.
Awards were made after each five races to the first, second and third place finishers and at the end of the evening a presentation of the cups was made to our champions.
Following a very generous donation to the swimming club from the late Joe Delf, the club have been able to replace the Age Group Championship trophies. It was a great honour to have Joe's daughter, Mrs Pat Hollis, present the trophies this year.
Jack Utting was the overall Champion of Champions 2009 and is seen here collecting his trophy from Pat and the Club Chairman Mrs Paola Moore.
Do You Remember 1978?
Thursday, 19 November 2009 23:35
Jim Callaghan was Prime Minister, the average house cost £13,800, petrol cost 15p/litre and interest rates were 12.5%. This Apple II computer was state of the art and you would be watching the Rockford Files, The Good Life and Wonder Woman on your television. But 1978 was historic for more reasons than that, 1978 was the year that Mrs. Cynthia Blackwell became the Treasurer of the Great Yarmouth Swimming Club.
