Club info - Officials

Stopwatch_ThumbOfficials can be easily spotted around the pool at all galas, they are the people wearing white, armed with clipboards, stop watches and whistles, ensuring that everything is running within the rules. The Club are obliged to supply judges and timekeepers at all the galas we attend. All officials are volunteers and there are always opportunities for more officials.

Why Volunteer?

If you have ever commented at a gala on how hot it is or how long it is taking between races or how uncomfortable the seats are, then you need to volunteer, get trained and get poolside, you will enjoy it.

• You will not get bored and uncomfortable; you will be involved.
• It will help you and your child gain a greater understanding of the competitive swimming environment.
• You will save money on spectator and coach transport fees; officials go free.

No previous experience is necessary as all aspects will be taught. Training consists of a small amount of classroom work and the rest is practical, hands on training, usually at the galas you would be attending.

ASA Club Timekeeper

The timekeeper's role is to accurately determine the time it took each swimmer to cover the distance of an event. This is achieved by means of a stopwatch. There is no minimum age and no previous experience is required.

ASA Judge Level 1

This is the first level of British qualification. The minimum age to commence training is 15 and you will learn the duties of a Timekeeper, Chief Timekeeper and Inspector of Turns. You will be required to complete a course workbook following which a practical assessment will be undertaken. When qualified, you will be attributed with the qualification Judge level 1 on the British Swimming Database. In addition, you may apply to become a Licensed Official.

ASA Judge Level 2

This is the second level of qualification. The minimum age to commence training is 15 years old and you will learn all aspects of Judging and the theoretical role and duties of Starter. You will be required to complete a course workbook, following which a practical assessment will be undertaken. There is no formal theory examination, however during the practical assessment you will be required to answer oral questions. When qualified you will be attributed with the qualification Judge level 2 on the British Swimming Database. In addition, you may apply to become a Licensed Official.

Starter

If who wish to qualify as a Starter you must hold the Judge Level 2 qualification and be a minimum age of 15 years. When successful you will be attributed with the Starter qualification Judge Level 2S
